Changes at helm of Cape Cod Maritime Museum

Hyannis, MA, August 31, 2020, - The Cape Cod Maritime Museum is pleased to announce Elizabeth York as its new Executive Director. “Liz brings to the Museum great museum experience, so we are very excited to have her join us,” says President of the Board, Craig Ashworth. “ The position drew an exceptionally talented field of over 70 applicants, and we feel privileged to have found Liz amongst them.”

York’s academic background includes a Master’s degree in Museum Studies with a focus on Collection Management and nearly a decade of museum experience, including as Director of Collections at Battleship Cove and the Maritime Museum of Fall River. Her tenure began at the beginning of the month and her initial duties included launching the reopening of the museum (first opening date was August 26) after several months of closure due to Covid-19 regulations. York also plans to roll out an array of on-line videos, educational programs, hands-on boat building, nautical theme workshops, and activities for schools, families and children in the coming months.

“I am thrilled to join the Museum and I greatly look forward to meeting our visitors and members, and connecting with the Cape Cod community who come to the Museum to learn, participate, create, and celebrate maritime heritage with us,” says York. “We wholeheartedly welcome residents and visitors on Cape Cod to join us at 135 South St, Hyannis, on the beautiful waterfront next to Aselton Park.”

Cape Cod Maritime Museum’s mission is to preserve the rich maritime traditions and history for which Cape Cod and the Islands are known. The Museum has been serving the Cape for more than 20 years and boasts a unique collection of artifacts, ship models, an historic boat barn housing a complete collection of Cape Cod wooden boats and the Cook Boat Shop, a working wood boat shop.
