HISTORY ON TAP: CAPE COD CANAL

  • Cape Cod Maritime Museum 135 South Street Barnstable, MA, 02601 United States (map)

As the Cape Cod Maritime Museum prepares to close its Cape Cod Canal exhibit in Fall 2026, this program offers a final opportunity to explore one of the region’s most significant engineering achievements. Each year, millions of people cross the bridges over the Canal—but few fully understand its history and operation.

Join U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Park Ranger Samantha Gray for an engaging presentation that delves into the Canal’s origins, construction, and evolution. Through archival photographs, historic maps, and film, the program traces the Canal from its early development and reconstruction to its role today, offering insight into both its engineering significance and its impact on Cape Cod.
