Overview

What is YMP?

The Young Mariner Program is a STEM-focused, on-the-water summer program that blends boating adventures with hands-on marine science exploration. Campers will discover local Cape Cod marine life, explore coastal ecosystems, and learn how to care for and protect our ocean environments.

Each week features a different local marine species and habitat theme. Through engaging activities, experiments, and real-world exploration, campers immerse themselves in the science of the sea while building confidence, curiosity, and a deeper connection to the water.

Where Does YMP Happen?

The Young Mariner Program is based at the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, located at 135 South Street, Hyannis, MA 02601. Drop-off and pick-up take place on our scenic waterfront patio behind the museum. Our boats are docked just steps away — campers simply cross the parking lot and head out for daily adventures on Lewis Bay and beyond. We’re also located next to Aselton Park, which we occasionally use for outdoor games and movement breaks.

When?

YMP runs for nine week-long sessions from June 22 through August 21.

About the Program

The Young Mariner Program was created to give Cape Cod kids meaningful access to the water — especially those who may not grow up boating, fishing, or spending time on the ocean, despite living so close to it. Our goal is to make the maritime world feel welcoming, exciting, and possible for every child, while building confidence, curiosity, teamwork, and a lasting connection to the sea.

Testimonials

“Both boys came home excited every day, they loved being in the boat and catching fish and crabs. The sighting of Neal the seal was a highlight. Based on the description of each day there was a good amount of learning and the very important time to play. A well structured “learning based” camp incorporates time play, often children do not realize how much they have actually learned. The young Mariner program is wonderful, both boys are looking forward to next year. Thank you for all you do!!!”
