Join us for the first of this 3 part living history series this summer at the museum, with the 3-5-0 Girls (WWII Women's Military Demonstration), on July 7th. This series is designed for all ages to interact with history and enjoy some nibbles & beer tastings from local breweries on the museum's waterfront back patio. Living Historians will be presenting live talks, videos, and demonstrations and will be free to answer any questions. Visitors will be encouraged to be curious, ask questions, and learn all about these periods of history while sampling drinks from Devil’s Purse Brewing.
The 3-5-0 Girls will be talking about the Women's Naval Reserve (WAVES) and the Coast Guard Reserves (SPARS). There were 100 WAVES stationed in Chatham, operating an RCA station and 12 SPARS were operating Unit 21, the first LORAN station to be run entirely by women. The WAVES were helping with spotting u-boats and the SPARS were essential in navigation for American ships and aircraft.
Entry is $5, IDs will be checked at the door.
Please be advised that parking is limited at the museum. In the back of the museum, CCMM spaces are directly in front of our patio. Any parking beyond the wooden fence or along the Aselton park fence is prohibited, and the town will issue parking tickets. Public lots are available within walking distance. Please see the following link for public parking information: https://tinyurl.com/CCMM-Park Thank you!
